Authorities have placed southern Odisha on high alert as Cyclone Montha moves closer to the east coast. Warnings have been issued from Ganjam to Paradip, with officials urging residents and fishermen to stay cautious and follow safety advisories.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast Prompts Precautionary Steps

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall across parts of southern Odisha. In response, district administrations have launched awareness campaigns in vulnerable areas, especially in Ganjam district, where officials are using public announcement systems to alert communities and encourage preparedness.

Fishermen Advised to Stay Ashore

In Dhamra and Paradip, authorities have warned fishermen not to venture into the sea, citing strong winds and rough sea conditions.

Many fishing boats have already returned to shore, while efforts continue to ensure the safe return of all remaining vessels.

In Chandbali, officials are using loudspeakers and megaphones to communicate directly with fishermen still at sea, urging them to come back immediately.

Cyclone Shelters and Evacuation Plans Ready

Although Cyclone Montha’s projected path is not expected to make a direct landfall in Odisha, its outer bands may bring heavy rain and strong winds to coastal districts.

The state government has placed cyclone shelters on standby, and evacuation plans have been readied for residents of low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Authorities have confirmed that relocation measures will be implemented swiftly if weather conditions worsen.

Continuous Monitoring and Coordination

District administrations are maintaining round-the-clock monitoring and coordination with disaster response teams. Communication lines remain open between local authorities, coastal communities, and the fisheries department to ensure real-time updates and prompt action if the situation escalates.

Officials have emphasized that public safety remains the top priority, and urged citizens to stay informed through official channels and avoid spreading unverified information.
