The Odisha government has formally proposed Dahibara Aloodum, the beloved street food of Cuttack, as the district’s official cuisine under the “One District, One Cuisine” scheme.
MSME Minister Gokulananda Mallik announced the initiative in the State Assembly, highlighting its potential to boost cultural recognition and culinary tourism.
Mallik explained that the move will help promote Dahibara Aloodum at both national and international levels, strengthening its identity as a culinary symbol of Cuttack. He further noted that while the MSME Department cannot directly apply for a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, it will support associations, individuals, or stakeholders who pursue registration with the GI Registry in Chennai.
Odisha already boasts 27 GI-tagged products, with nine more in process, underscoring the state’s rich heritage of unique foods and crafts.
