In a shocking case of alleged medical negligence, a woman in Odisha suffered severe complications after an abortion procedure went horribly wrong at a private hospital in Cuttack.
The victim, identified as Diptimayee Barik from Mahanga, was admitted to Janani Hospital in Ranihat on May 2. However, during the procedure, doctors allegedly severed a portion of her rectum, leading to severe health consequences.
Despite repeated inquiries, Diptimayee’s family claims they were kept in the dark about the mistake until further medical evaluations at KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar revealed the extent of the damage. A formal police complaint has been lodged against the attending doctor, Dr. Sushri Jagdeb, and hospital officials.
Following the complaint, Assistant Commissioner of Police G.R. Chakraborty confirmed that an investigation is underway. The Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) has formed a special inquiry team, including gynaecology and surgical experts, to assess the case.
This incident has sparked outrage, raising serious concerns about patient safety and medical accountability in private healthcare facilities.
