The Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar detained five suspects on Sunday in connection with the recent bomb attack near Kendriya Vidyalaya-3 (KV-3).

Mancheswar Police began interrogating the accused using CCTV footage and information provided by local residents. Moreover, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) joined the probe to strengthen the investigation.

The blast occurred on Friday morning, November 28, near Gadakana locality. Significantly, the incident took place while President Droupadi Murmu was visiting Odisha and staying in the State Capital. Consequently, authorities treated the case with heightened seriousness, especially since major Indian cities remain on high alert after the recent New Delhi explosion.

Investigators intensified their efforts as a scientific team conducted an on-site examination. They recovered gunpowder, metal spikes, shattered glass, and other materials from the scene. Furthermore, residents alleged that inadequate patrolling in the area has encouraged anti-social activities. They also expressed concern about the growing presence of intoxicated individuals near the school, raising fresh fears about student safety.

According to eyewitness accounts, unidentified bike-borne miscreants hurled a crude bomb near Gate No. 3 of KV-3 around 8:00 AM. The timing alarmed authorities because nearly 1,000 to 1,500 students typically enter through that gate between 7:30 AM and 7:45 AM. Fortunately, the spot remained deserted at the time of the explosion, preventing a potential tragedy.
