A CRPF officer was killed and another seriously injured after a lightning strike hit them during an anti-Naxal operation in Keriburu village of West Singhbhum district late Thursday night, officials confirmed.
The incident occurred around 10:30 PM, when the personnel were conducting a field operation in a forested region.
M Prabo Singh, a Second-in-Command of the CRPF’s 26th Battalion, succumbed to injuries caused by the lightning. Assistant Commandant S K Mandal was also struck and has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said.
The officers were part of an operational team deployed deep in the jungles as part of an ongoing counter-insurgency mission. The area is known for its difficult terrain and unpredictable weather, especially during seasonal transitions.
Senior officials have expressed condolences and are coordinating support for the affected personnel and their families.
