Real Madrid legend Luka Modric has officially announced his departure from the club at the end of the season, bringing an iconic 13-year chapter to a close.
The Croatian midfielder, who joined Los Blancos in 2012, shared an emotional farewell message on Instagram, thanking fans, teammates, and club management for their unwavering support throughout his illustrious career in Madrid.
Modric’s post read in part:
“The time has come. The moment I never wanted to arrive… Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a footballer and as a person. I’m proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.”
One of the first to respond to Modric’s heartfelt message was Cristiano Ronaldo, his former teammate and longtime friend.
The Portuguese star, now with Al Nassr, wrote in the comments:
“Thankyou for everything, Luka. It was an honor to share so many moments with you at the club. Wishing you all the best in what’s to come!”

From August 2012 to July 2018, Modric and Ronaldo were central figures in one of the most dominant periods in Real Madrid’s history. Together, they helped the club win 15 major trophies, including four UEFA Champions League titles (2014, 2016, 2017, 2018), three UEFA Super Cups, and three FIFA Club World Cups.
Domestically, the duo won La Liga in the 2016–17 season, the Copa del Rey in 2013–14, and the Spanish Super Cup in 2017. Modric made his debut shortly after signing in the 2012 Super Cup and quickly established himself as the heartbeat of Real’s midfield, forming a world-class partnership with Ronaldo.
Modric’s departure marks the end of an era for Real Madrid. Though he won’t don the famous white shirt on the field anymore, the Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder made it clear in his message:
“Real Madrid will always be my home. For a lifetime. Hala Madrid and nothing else.”
