Police arrested Councillor Mohammad Imran Khan after he allegedly threatened Kantabanji MLA Laxman Bag with death in the presence of officers at the railway station.
Initially, MLA Bag alerted police about illegal labour trafficking involving more than 50 workers being transported from Kantabanji railway station toward Hyderabad and Vijayawada. Consequently, a confrontation erupted between Councillor Imran Khan of Ward No. 1, his associate Bunty Behera, and the MLA.
Moreover, witnesses reported that Imran and his associate abused the MLA inside the railway police outpost and threatened to kill him. As a result, MLA Bag filed a formal complaint, which prompted Titilagarh GRP police to register Case No. 126/2025 under sections 221, 296, 351(3), and 3(5) of the BNS Act.
Subsequently, police detained Imran Khan and produced him in court on Friday. The court rejected his bail plea and sent him to judicial custody.
Furthermore, Station Officer Vinay Kumar Bhoi confirmed that the investigation continues. He also stated that police will soon arrest other individuals linked to the incident.
