Sundargarh: Congress has called for a 12-hour bandh in Sundargarh demanding the establishment of the second All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the town.
The agitation has hit normalcy here as shops and markets in the city remained closed and only a few motor vehicles were seen on the road.
Besides, coal transportation from MCL has also been affected.
Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Naba Kishore Das had earlier written a letter to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan for the establishment of a second AIIMS in Sundargarh.
While there has been no response from the Union government on AIIMS second campus in Sundargarh, the state government has taken an initiative to establish a medical college on the same campus.
