Concerns over food safety have resurfaced in Bhubaneswar after a customer alleged that adulterated paneer was supplied through Zomato.
The complaint comes after offline sales of adulterated paneer were curbed, raising fears that such practices are now shifting to online platforms.
According to reports, a customer ordered paneer from Rolls World restaurant in Chandrasekharpur via Zomato. After conducting an iodine test, the paneer was allegedly found to be adulterated. The complainant then approached the Odisha Food Safety Commission, which advised filing an FIR.
However, the complainant claimed that Chandrasekharpur police refused to register the FIR, leaving him distressed despite producing the order invoice, GD copy, and test results. He also alleged that no inspection was carried out at the restaurant.
The restaurant has denied the allegations, stating that they do not supply adulterated paneer. Meanwhile, the incident has sparked debate over the safety of food delivered through online platforms, with consumers demanding stricter monitoring.
Authorities have yet to issue a clear statement, but experts insist that both the Food Safety Commission and police must investigate promptly to ensure accountability and protect public health.
