A coal-laden train en route from Dhamra to Jamshedpur caught fire near Markona in Balasore district on Wednesday.

Smoke was noticed billowing from two bogies, prompting immediate action to stop the train at Soro station.

The Soro Fire Department quickly dispatched a team to the scene. Firefighters efficiently extinguished the flames, ensuring that the situation did not escalate. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

Following the successful containment of the fire, the train resumed its journey. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the incident, with experts assessing potential technical malfunctions or external factors contributing to the fire.

Local officials have reassured the public that safety measures for freight trains carrying combustible materials will be reviewed to prevent such occurrences in the future.
