A coal-transporting goods train derailed at the Belpahar rail gate in Odisha’s Jharsuguda district on Saturday evening, causing temporary disruption to both rail and road movement.
According to reports, three wagons of the train, which was travelling on the Howrah-Nagpur railway route, slipped off the tracks near the level crossing. No casualties or injuries were reported, and the incident did not result in any large-scale damage.
Following the derailment, authorities closed the Belpahar level crossing to facilitate restoration work. This has blocked the road passing through the gate, severely affecting vehicular traffic in the area. Commuters have been forced to take longer alternate routes.
Railway officials have rushed technical teams to the spot, and efforts are underway to re-rail the derailed wagons and restore normal train movement. The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be officially determined.
