Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi addressed a national seminar on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 at the Central Sanskrit University in Puri.
He emphasized that NEP 2020 aims to transform India into a global knowledge power by integrating Indian thought with modern learning.
Majhi stated that NEP 2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century designed to meet developmental needs. He stressed the importance of Indian knowledge systems as the foundation of a new educational era. He urged youth to connect with India’s cultural heritage and intellectual traditions.
The Chief Minister highlighted that education should not only develop literacy and numeracy but also foster analytical thinking and moral values. He called for reforms in educational structures to align with Sustainable Development Goal 4 while preserving Indian ethos.
Majhi said Odisha must take leadership in promoting Indian education and culture. He quoted Kautilya’s Arthashastra, saying “People’s welfare is the ruler’s true joy,” and emphasized the role of constitutional values and patriotism in shaping responsible citizens.
The seminar featured key speakers including Dr. Atul Kothari and Dr. Pankaj Mittal, who echoed the need to embed Indian values in education. Discussions focused on aligning traditional knowledge with modern pedagogy.
The three-day event explored themes like “Education and Indian Values,” “Indian Knowledge Systems and Modern Education,” and “Foundations of NEP 2020.”
