In another alarming incident, a student from a residential school in Odisha has been found pregnant, this time in Keonjhar district.
The incident involves a Class 6 girl from an Ashram school in the Champua area who was discovered to be pregnant during a routine health check-up.
Reports indicate that the girl had visited her native place during the Makar Sankranti holiday in January. Upon returning to school, the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) noticed that she had missed her monthly period. The ANM reported the matter to the headmaster, and a sample was sent to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for a pregnancy test, which came back positive.
Upon learning of the minor girl’s pregnancy, district administration officials visited the school and instructed the headmaster to report the matter to the police. The girl reportedly confessed to the hostel matron that her uncle had had a physical relationship with her, leading to the pregnancy.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and well-being of students in residential schools. Authorities are investigating the matter further and taking steps to ensure such incidents do not recur.
