A Class 12 student from Pattamundai College in Kendrapara district died by suicide following allegations of sexual harassment by an exam invigilator.
The tragic event has shaken the local community and brought attention to the students’ distress. The mother of the deceased girl lodged a formal complaint with the Pattamundai Rural Police, alleging that her daughter was taken to a common room under the pretext of a ‘copy-checking’ session and was subsequently sexually assaulted by the invigilator.
The young student, unable to cope with the emotional turmoil, ended her life on February 24, a few days after the incident on February 19. This case has raised serious concerns about student safety and the conduct of examination procedures in educational institutions.
Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation, collecting CCTV footage from the college to ascertain the full sequence of events. The case has underscored the urgent need for strict protocols and safeguarding measures to protect students in educational environments.
As the investigation continues, the public awaits a transparent and thorough inquiry to ensure justice for the victim and her grieving family.
