A violent clash erupted over item girl Nisha Maharana’s dance performance during a Jatra show at Shuka Parishad Ashram in Kendrapara district last night, resulting in two individuals suffering critical injuries.
The critically injured persons have been identified as Swapnajit Mahapatra and Jitendra Sahu. They were taken to Nishintakoili Hospital for treatment.
Reports indicate that Nisha Maharana’s performance led to intense confrontations between two factions—one against her dance and the other in support. What began as verbal disputes quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, causing chairs to be smashed and several attendees to be injured in the ensuing chaos.
The situation intensified when the show was abruptly stopped. On their way home, two members of the organizing committee were viciously attacked with sharp objects near Naganapur village.
Sources reveal that the annual Jatra event is organized by the Shuka Parishad Cultural Committee. However, this year another committee had also scheduled a performance, leading to competition between the two groups. To attract a larger crowd, the Shuka Parishad Committee featured Nisha Maharana for an item dance.
Shortly after her performance started, a portion of the audience began protesting and demanded that the dance be halted. Meanwhile, other spectators and committee members insisted that it continue. This disagreement rapidly escalated into a full-scale brawl.
As Nisha resumed dancing, some members of the crowd threw burning cigarette butts at her, prompting her to exit the stage. The situation spiralled further out of control as the agitated groups clashed, leading many attendees to flee in fear.
The event organizers have formally reported the incident to the Kudanagari police station, seeking compensation for the damages incurred. In addition, Swapnajit and Jitendra have filed separate complaints against their assailants.
