Balugaon: Banapur Assistant Session Judge on Thursday rejected the bail plea of Chilika MLA Prashant Jagdev who has been arrested in connection with ramming his car into a crowd injuring several persons including policemen.
After Assistant Session Judge Manoranjan Mishra dismissed the MLA’s bail application, Jagdev was again sent to custody in Banapur sub-jail, sources said.
According to the counsels of the expelled BJD legislator, they would move the higher court with the bail plea soon.
On 12th March, the Chilika MLA rammed his car into a crowd outside the Banapur block office in Khordha district injuring several persons. Following this, the mob gave him a sound thrashing leaving the legislator in a profusely bleeding condition.
After being rescued by the police in a critical condition, Jagdev was being treated at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The police had registered a case against Jagdev and arrested him on 22nd March after he was discharged from the hospital. He was then sent to judicial custody after a lower court turned down his bail application.
As the legislator is yet to fully recover, he has been lodged in a special cell at the Banpur sub-jail since then. On the directions of the Jail Superintendent, an attendant has been deployed to keep a check on the MLA’s health issues as advised by the doctors.
However, the legislator was rushed to Bhubaneswar’s Capital Hospital amid tight security late on Monday night, after his health condition deteriorated.
On Tuesday evening, the legislator’s health improved and he was again brought to the Banpur sub-jail. The legislator’s lawyer applied for bail again with the Banapur Assistant Session Judge on 28th March and the hearing was set for the 31st March. However, the legislator’s bail plea got rejected again.
