A heartbreaking incident occurred in Kolhabeda village under Ghasipura block of Keonjhar district, where a minor girl lost her life and two family members were critically injured after their mud house collapsed due to incessant rainfall on Friday night.
The deceased was the daughter of Anjana Jena, who, along with her other child, sustained serious injuries when a wall of their home gave way while they were sleeping. The weakened structure, battered by continuous downpour, crumbled unexpectedly, trapping the family inside.
Local authorities rushed the injured to Anandapur hospital, where they are now reported to be in stable condition. The tragedy has cast a pall over the village, prompting renewed scrutiny of government housing schemes and the safety of vulnerable families living in mud structures.
Residents and activists are calling for urgent action to ensure pucca homes for those living in high-risk zones, especially as climate-related weather extremes become more frequent.
