In a thrilling display of cricket, India’s Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten century to guide his team to a six-wicket victory against Bangladesh in their opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy.

Gill, ranked the No.1 batter by ICC, showcased his exceptional form by scoring 101 not out of 129 balls, his second consecutive hundred.

For his magnificent unbeaten 1️⃣0️⃣1️⃣, Shubman Gill is the Player of the Match 👏🏆#TeamIndia win #BANvIND and register 2 points 👌

India’s chase of 229 started strong with a partnership between Gill and Rohit Sharma, who contributed 41 runs. Although India faced some setbacks with the fall of Virat Kohli (22) and Axar Patel (8), Gill’s crucial 87-run partnership with KL Rahul (41*) steadied the ship and ensured India’s victory.

Earlier in the match, seasoned pacer Mohammed Shami marked his return to the international stage with a stunning five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/53. Shami’s performance not only helped restrict Bangladesh to 229 but also saw him surpass Zaheer Khan to become India’s leading wicket-taker in ICC ODI tournaments, with 60 wickets.

Despite a challenging start, Bangladesh fought back with an impressive 154-run partnership between Tawhid Hridoy and Jaker Ali, a record for the sixth wicket in Champions Trophy history. Tawhid scored a remarkable century, while Jaker added 68 valuable runs.

India’s victory places them second in Group A with two points, trailing New Zealand, who lead on net run rate. India will next face off against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, while Bangladesh will play against New Zealand in their upcoming match in Rawalpindi.

Stay tuned for more updates from the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
