The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust accepted the resignation of its General Secretary, Champat Rai, following the controversy over alleged misappropriation of temple donations.

The decision marks a major development in the ongoing probe into the donation theft case.

Sources said Bajrang Bagra, International General Secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, is among the leading contenders to succeed Rai. A chartered accountant and former head of PSU NALCO, Bagra brings administrative and financial expertise that could help professionalise the Trust’s operations.

The Trust aims to appoint a leader with strong governance and institutional management skills as it enters a new phase of temple administration. Insiders indicated that Rai may continue as a trustee unless he opts to step down completely.

The final decision on the new General Secretary may take time. The VHP’s national executive meeting scheduled in Delhi on July 19–20 will likely discuss key organisational changes, including transfers and appointments.

The resignation comes amid heightened scrutiny of the Trust’s financial practices following the alleged siphoning of donations meant for the Ayodhya Ram Temple. The development has drawn national attention, with the Trust reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability.
