The Central government has officially notified an increase in the salary, daily allowance, pension, and additional pension of Members of Parliament (MPs) and former MPs, effective from April 1, 2023.
According to the notification, the monthly salary of MPs has been revised from ₹1 lakh to ₹1.24 lakh. Additionally, their daily allowance has been increased from ₹2,000 to ₹2,500, providing further financial support for their daily duties and engagements.
The monthly pension of former MPs has also seen a significant hike. Ex-MPs will now receive ₹31,000 per month, up from the earlier ₹25,000.
The revision is aimed at adjusting the benefits in line with the rising cost of living and ensuring better financial security for both serving and former Members of Parliament. The changes were officially notified and reported by ANI.
The move has sparked discussions across political and public platforms about the timing and necessity of the hike amid ongoing economic challenges faced by common citizens.
