Carlos Alcaraz Wins US Open 2025, Reclaims World No. 1 Spot; Nadal Leads Tributes

Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz produced a masterclass in power and precision to defeat Italy’s Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 and lift his second US Open title on Sunday.

The victory not only avenged his Wimbledon loss earlier this summer but also saw him reclaim the ATP World No. 1 ranking, ending Sinner’s 65-week reign at the top.

The 22-year-old Murcian became a two-time champion at Flushing Meadows, having first triumphed in New York in 2022. The win also marked his sixth career Grand Slam title, cementing his status as the face of tennis’ new generation.

A Rivalry Defining This Era

This was the third consecutive Grand Slam final featuring Alcaraz and Sinner — a rivalry already being hailed as one of the greatest of the modern era. Alcaraz had edged their first clash in Paris to retain his French Open crown, before Sinner struck back at Wimbledon. In New York, however, Alcaraz’s explosive forehand and relentless net play left little room for doubt.

Statistically, Alcaraz dominated with 42 winners to Sinner’s 21 and dropped only nine points behind his first serve in the two-hour, 42-minute showdown. Remarkably, he was broken just once in the match — and only three times in the entire tournament — becoming the second player since 1991 to win a Slam while dropping three or fewer service games (after Pete Sampras in 1994 and 1997).

Emotional Speech & Tributes

“This trophy is as much yours as it is mine,” said an emotional Alcaraz, dedicating the win to his team and family. “The hard work you do makes me a better player and a better person. Every achievement I have is because of you.”

Sinner, graceful in defeat, congratulated his rival:
“You were better than me today. You are doing an amazing job — enjoy this great moment,” he said during the post-match ceremony.

Nadal’s Classy Salute

Tennis legend Rafael Nadal was among the first to hail Alcaraz’s triumph, posting on social media:

“Congratulations @carlosalcaraz! Champion again of the @usopen and number 1! Congratulations on all the work behind this great season.”

The win takes Alcaraz’s 2025 tally to seven tour-level titles and 61 match wins, making him the season’s most dominant player heading into the final stretch.
