Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has moved swiftly to clear the air ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, confirming that he will be fully fit to bowl, despite being listed as a batter in the official auction pool.
Green, who will go under the hammer at the auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, said the unusual classification was the result of a clerical error during registration rather than a change in role or fitness concerns.
Speaking to reporters before Australia’s training session in Adelaide on Sunday, Green explained that the mix-up occurred while his manager was completing the auction paperwork.
“I’ll be good to bowl. I don’t know if my manager would like to hear this, but there was a stuff-up on his end. He didn’t mean to select ‘batter’ and accidentally ticked the wrong box,” Green said.
“It’s been pretty funny how it’s all played out, but it was genuinely just a mistake.”
Why the ‘Batter’ Tag Matters at the Auction
Player categories can influence when names appear in the auction order, especially in a mini-auction. Being listed as a batter means Green is likely to come up earlier in the bidding, a phase when franchises typically have larger purses and greater urgency to secure key players.
While the classification raised eyebrows, teams are unlikely to be misled by the label.
Why Franchises Still See Green as an All-Rounder
Green missed the IPL 2025 season while recovering from back surgery and initially returned to international cricket as a specialist batter in mid-2025. Since then, his bowling workload has been carefully increased, and he has now been cleared to bowl regularly, restoring his status as a genuine pace-bowling all-rounder.
For IPL teams, this remains Green’s biggest asset — a rare blend of power batting, athletic fielding, and seam bowling that can shape both a playing XI and overall squad balance.
Auction Outlook and Past IPL Performances
Green has a base price of INR 2 crore, but his market value is expected to rise sharply once bidding begins.
He has already proven his impact in the league:
-
With Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023, Green delivered a high-impact season with both bat and ball
-
At Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024, he continued to contribute across disciplines, even as his role evolved during the tournament
Despite the “batter” tag on paper, franchises are well aware of what Green brings to the table.
As the auction approaches, Green’s message to teams is clear: ignore the label. He is entering IPL 2026 as the complete all-round package, and the listing was simply the result of a box ticked wrong.
