The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light to the Modernization of Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADWM).
This sub-scheme, allocated an initial budget of Rs 1,600 crore, will modernize India’s irrigation networks to increase efficiency, boost agricultural productivity, and enhance farmers’ incomes.
Leveraging advanced technologies like SCADA and IoT, the scheme focuses on sustainable water use, empowering Water User Societies (WUS), and attracting youth to modernized farming methods.
Pilot projects across diverse agro-climatic zones will pave the way for a comprehensive national rollout in April 2026.
