The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project.

The new corridor spans 11.165 kilometres and will include 12 stations—seven underground and five elevated—connecting key zones of Old Lucknow with the broader metro network.

This expansion will bring the total operational metro length in the city to 34 kilometres, significantly enhancing urban mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and promoting sustainable transport.

Key Highlights:

  • Connectivity Boost: The new line will link commercial hubs like Aminabad and Chowk, healthcare centres such as King George’s Medical University, and major tourist attractions, including Bara Imambara and Rumi Darwaza.
  • Traffic Relief: The metro extension is expected to ease congestion in densely populated areas, improving road safety and reducing travel time.
  • Environmental Gains: By shifting commuters from road to rail, the project will help cut carbon emissions and support cleaner urban living.
  • Economic Impact: Improved access to transport will stimulate local businesses, attract investment, and enhance productivity across the city.
  • Social Equity: The metro will offer affordable, reliable transport to diverse socio-economic groups, improving access to essential services.

The Phase-1B development is poised to transform Lucknow’s urban landscape, making it more connected, inclusive, and future-ready.
