A serious bus accident occurred in Kangutuma Ghat of Rayagada district on Wednesday evening, leaving three passengers critically injured.
The Lakshmi bus was en route from Kashipur to Bandhamandi when its brakes failed while descending the ghat.
The vehicle was carrying over 45 passengers, many of whom were returning from Kashipur’s weekly market. Following the mishap, injured passengers were rushed to Kashipur Group Health Center and Mandibisi Primary Health Center. The three critically injured individuals are currently receiving treatment at Kashipur CHC.
Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was overcrowded due to the weekly market rush. Additionally, ongoing roadwork between Mandibisi and Kashipur has left the route in a deplorable condition, contributing to frequent accidents in the area.
Locals have repeatedly raised concerns about the poor road infrastructure and demanded immediate attention from departmental authorities. The Rayagada bus accident has once again highlighted the urgent need for road safety measures and better maintenance in the region.
