A potentially catastrophic train accident was narrowly avoided late last night when a massive boulder fell onto the railway track near Majhigariani Temple, close to Rayagada town.
The incident occurred on the route of the Visakhapatnam-Korba Link Express, which was en route to Korba.
The loco pilot reportedly heard a loud crash and immediately applied the brakes, bringing the train to a halt just in time. The Korba Express remained stranded for nearly five hours as railway rescue teams rushed to the site, cleared the debris, and conducted emergency repairs.
Train services on the affected route were suspended from midnight until 5 AM, causing delays across several schedules. Operations resumed on a single line after clearance. Senior railway officials monitored the situation closely, and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) has initiated a probe into the incident.
