Cuttack: The dead body of a Bol Bam devotee was recovered from the Mahanadi river on Monday morning following a rescue operation by Chauliaganj firefighting officials in Cuttack district.
The deceased youth has been identified as Biswajit Behera (22) of the Tinigharia area of Cuttack. On Sunday evening, Biswajit drowned while collecting water from the Mahanadi River near Bhadimula Ghat for Jala Abhisek at Asthasambhu Temple.
Biswajit was lifting water along with 20 others at Bhadimula when he was swept away by the strong currents of the river Mahanadi.
Though fire and rescue personnel launched a search in the river on a motorboat, the operation was halted at night. The rescue resumed the operation early this morning and after a few hours of searching, the firemen recovered Biswajit’s body from Bhadimula Ghat.
Reportedly, the body has been sent to SCB MCH for autopsy after identification by the family members.
