The body of a 9-year-old girl named Subhadra, who had been missing for six days, was recovered from the Coast Canal near Radhanathpur village under Basudevpur block in Bhadrak district.
The child was reportedly abducted while playing near her home, sparking a massive search operation involving local residents and police.
Her body was found approximately 400 meters from her house, hidden in the grassy banks of the canal. The discovery drew a large crowd of villagers, many of whom had joined the search efforts day and night since her disappearance.
Initial reports suggest that the girl may have been murdered and her body dumped in the canal. Following the recovery, Bhadrak police, along with a forensic team and the Odisha Rapid Action Force (ORAF), reached the site and began a detailed investigation.
The case has triggered widespread speculation and concern in the region. Police officials have assured that the mystery surrounding Subhadra’s death will be unraveled through a thorough probe.
