A powerful blast struck outside the District and Sessions Court in Islamabad’s G-11 area on Tuesday, killing several people and injuring more than 25 others.
The explosion created panic among lawyers, staff, and residents as security forces rushed to the scene and cordoned off the area.
Eyewitnesses heard a loud boom near the court premises around noon. Soon after, initial reports suggested the blast originated from a car. Investigators, however, continue to examine whether it was a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) or a cylinder explosion. Rescue teams immediately transported the injured to nearby hospitals, where several victims remain in critical condition.
Geo News reported that the blast shook the busy court complex and left victims lying on the ground as chaos unfolded. Police and rescue teams quickly evacuated the injured and secured the site. Meanwhile, forensic experts began analysing debris to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
The incident occurred amid heightened tensions in the region following recent security concerns. Netizens speculated about the motives behind the attack, linking it to broader geopolitical developments. Officials, however, urged restraint and stressed that the investigation will reveal the facts.
Lawyers and court staff expressed shock over the attack and demanded stronger security measures around judicial institutions. In response, the Islamabad police chief confirmed that authorities deployed additional forces across sensitive areas to prevent further incidents.
