BJD Supremo Naveen Patnaik Criticises BJP-ruled Odisha Government’s Supplementary Budget, Says It Fails Public Expectations

Former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik has sharply criticised the supplementary budget presented by the BJP government in the State Assembly, stating that it has failed to meet the expectations of the people of Odisha.

In a post on social media, Patnaik said the supplementary budget does not reflect any major infrastructure initiatives or long-term vision that citizens hoped to see in the government’s first full financial year. He added that the proposals indicate growing fiscal pressure on the state.

According to Patnaik, the current financial plan signals an increase in Odisha’s debt burden while administrative expenditure continues to shrink. Apart from an allocation of around ₹900 crore for the Works Department and limited funds for certain urban infrastructure projects, he claimed the budget lacks significant new initiatives.

Patnaik further alleged that the state government has brought the supplementary budget to mask reduced central assistance and its own limitations in revenue generation. He said the move appears to be an attempt to mislead the people rather than work in their interest.
