The attack on senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and eight-time elected MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain yesterday was a pre-planned conspiracy by the BJP. The fact that an eight-time MLA and the current Pro-tem Speaker of the Assembly was targeted clearly exposes the BJP’s sick mentality and highlights the worsening law and order situation in the state, said senior BJD leader and State Senior Media Coordinator Pratap Jena at a press conference held at Shankha Bhavan.
Jena stated that the attack took place while MLA Swain was returning from a Panchayat Samiti meeting in Tigiria Block. It is unfortunate and regrettable that the government has failed to ensure the safety of a senior legislator. BJD strongly condemns this incident.
The Chief Minister, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, who is responsible for the Home Ministry, must issue a clarification on this matter, demanded BJD. Additionally, the Speaker of the Assembly must take appropriate action regarding the attack on an elected legislator, said Jena.
BJP workers have once again carried out a brutal attack, this time on a Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) at the Khuntuni Panchayat office. BJD strongly condemns this incident as well.
On the other hand, the law-and-order situation in the state has collapsed. The government has turned a blind eye to rising incidents of murder, rape, gang rape, theft, and looting. Due to political pressure on the police, BJP workers involved in various crimes are not being brought to justice. As a result, the police are unable to function independently, stated Jena.
