Bhubaneswar: The day after BJB College girl student’s suicide, Odisha Higher Education Minister Rohit Pujari on Sunday said the state government will take appropriate action. He also expressed his condolences to the deceased student’s family.
Taking to Twitter, Minister Pujari said, “I am deeply saddened by the untimely death of Ruchika Mohanty, a Plus III student of the BJB College, who was staying at Karubaki hostel. My condolences to the bereaved family. This is a sensitive issue. The Government will take appropriate action after receiving the police probe report.”

Reportedly following this incident, the student wing of Congress (Chhatra Congress) on Saturday gheraoed the State Higher Education Minister’s residence.
Police picked up scores of activists of the Chhatra Congress while they were attempting to barge into the government residence of the Minister, Rohit Pujari at night.
Meanwhile, a three-member panel has been formed to investigate the case and the panel will be led by an Additional DCP.
During the investigation, all 134 hostel inmates will be questioned while college staff, hostel superintendent, and warden will be brought under the purview of investigation.
Ruchika was found dead in her hostel room here on Saturday. In a note, the victim has alleged that she was tortured by her seniors.
