As the countdown to the Bihar Assembly Election results begins, most exit polls released on Tuesday night have predicted a decisive win for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United).

At least seven exit polls — Matrize, P-Marq, People’s Pulse, Bhaskar, People’s Insight, JVC, and Poll Diary — forecast that the NDA will cross the majority mark of 122 seats in the 243-member Assembly, with many estimating over 133 seats.

The Opposition Mahagathbandhan, comprising Tejashwi Yadav’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress, has questioned the credibility of these surveys, maintaining that the final results will tell a different story.

NDA Leaders Hail ‘Clean-Up’ Mandate

BJP MP Dinesh Sharma celebrated the exit poll trends, claiming that Bihar voters have initiated a “clean-up” of the Congress-RJD alliance.

“The clean-up of Congress and RJD from Bihar has begun. The NDA will retain power with a two-thirds majority,” Sharma said.

BJP leader Manoj Tiwari echoed this sentiment, stating that the Mahagathbandhan had already accepted defeat.

“People have seen the development under Prime Minister Modi and Nitish Kumar. The support from women and Gen Z is clearly visible,” he told ANI.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary added that the results reflect the people’s faith in PM Modi and CM Kumar.

“This is an exit poll; we will go even higher in the exact poll,” he said confidently.

Opposition Calls Exit Polls ‘Pre-Planned’ and ‘Fake’

Meanwhile, the Opposition camp rejected the exit poll numbers, pointing to a record voter turnout as a sign of public desire for change.

RJD MP Sudhakar Singh said:

“Higher voter turnout often signals anti-incumbency. The exit polls are far from reality. The Mahagathbandhan will form the next government.”

According to the Chief Electoral Officer Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, the final phase recorded nearly 69 percent turnout, with an overall participation of 66 percent across both phases — about 9.6 points higher than the last election.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav dismissed the exit polls as “pre-planned and fake,” recalling that similar predictions were proven wrong during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“‘Jiska daana, uska gaana’ — those who feed, people sing their tune,” Yadav remarked, taking a dig at media outlets.

Poll Timeline

The Bihar Assembly elections were held in two phases — on November 6 and November 11 — with counting scheduled for Friday, November 14.

As the state awaits results, both camps — the ruling NDA and the Opposition Mahagathbandhan — are gearing up for a tense showdown that could redefine Bihar’s political landscape.
