“The United States stands unequivocally for the protection of civilian life during conflict, and we mourn the patients, medical staff, and other innocents killed or wounded in this tragedy,” Biden said in a statement issued after departed for the Middle East. He will visit only Israel now.
In readiness for an anticipated Israeli invasion that aims to depose Hamas’ leadership following its murderous incursion, more than a million people have evacuated their homes in the Gaza Strip. According to aid organizations, an Israeli ground offensive might precipitate a humanitarian crisis.
With more than 4,000 fatalities on both sides, the conflict that started on October 7 is now the bloodiest of the five Gaza conflicts.
