A Junior Revenue Assistant (JRA) at the Office of the Sub-Collector, Bhubaneswar, was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 for processing a pending certificate case file.
The accused, Sourav Tripathy, had allegedly demanded the bribe from a complainant despite repeated requests to process the case. Unable to meet the demand, the complainant approached Vigilance officials, prompting a swift operation.
Tripathy was apprehended while taking the bribe on Friday, July 25. The tainted cash was seized from his possession, and immediate searches were launched at two locations linked to him to probe for disproportionate assets.
The incident has sparked serious concerns about corruption within newly inducted revenue staff, as Tripathy had only been appointed in March 2024.
A case has been registered under Bhubaneswar Vigilance P.S. Case No. 17 dated July 24, 2025. The accused is charged under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. A detailed investigation is currently ongoing.
