The Odisha government held its first Inter-Ministerial Sub-Committee meeting on the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project today, hosted at the Lok Seva Bhawan Conference Hall.

Chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Shri Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, the session focused on charting out a strategic roadmap for the state capital’s ambitious metro transformation.

Constituted under the direction of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, the subcommittee aims to synchronise departmental efforts to establish a strong and efficient public transit system in Bhubaneswar.

Discussions centred around the development of a Comprehensive Mobility Plan to alleviate traffic woes. The committee examined rail-road integration models and emphasised modalities for seamless transitions across transport modes.

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, also the Minister for Agriculture & Farmers Empowerment and Energy, led the dialogue, joined by Law, Works & Excise Minister Shri Prithiviraj Harichandan and Industry & Skill Development Minister Shri Sampada Chandra Swain.

Senior bureaucrats, including Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Principal Secretary (Finance) Saswat Mishra, Housing & Urban Development Secretary Smt. Usha Padhee and BMC Commissioner Shri Rajesh Pravakar Patil contributed expert insights.

Further, the panel engaged with Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) representatives—Kalyan Patnaik, Vikas Kumar, and Pramit Garg—to align Bhubaneswar’s metro framework with national standards and proven practices.

The committee resolved to ensure that future steps in the metro rollout reflect public interest, sustainable planning, and smart urban integration. The Bhubaneswar Metro is not just a transit initiative—it’s a step toward transforming the city’s mobility landscape.
