A private hostel in the Khandagiri area was the latest target of burglars, who looted electronic gadgets worth over Rs 15 lakh in the early hours of March 30.
The incident, which was captured on the hostel’s CCTV cameras, has raised significant concerns regarding security in the city.
This robbery adds to a troubling trend of increased burglaries in Bhubaneswar. Reports indicate over 18 apartment burglaries in the last six months, resulting in losses exceeding ₹38 lakh. Residents and hostel occupants have expressed growing fears, urging authorities to improve surveillance, intensify patrolling, and enforce stricter security measures in residential areas.
These thefts reflect a broader pattern of organized crime. Notable past incidents include the ₹50 lakh robbery at senior Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik’s residence earlier this year, underscoring the urgency for immediate action by local law enforcement.
While police investigations continue, citizens demand accountability and robust measures to ensure their safety. Security remains a pressing issue, urging collective efforts to curb the escalating wave of burglaries in Bhubaneswar.
