The Commissionerate Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the Dhauli Daya River gang-rape case with the arrest of the prime accused, Satyaprakash Hati, popularly known as “Joker Happy.” The arrest comes after an intensive manhunt following the crime that took place near the Daya River at Dhauli.
Police confirmed that Hati was apprehended from the Ganjam region after sustained tracking and surveillance operations. While his arrest marks significant progress in the investigation, two other accused involved in the case are still absconding. Law enforcement agencies have intensified search efforts to trace and arrest them at the earliest.
Accused has long criminal record
According to police sources, Satyaprakash Hati is a habitual offender with an extensive criminal history. Records indicate that more than 20 cases have been registered against him across Badagada and Dhauli police stations.
His criminal activities reportedly date back to 2018, when he was first arrested in connection with a vehicle theft case. After being released on bail, he was again taken into custody in 2022 for allegedly attacking a man with a blade in the Sishupalgarh area.
Police officials reiterated that the investigation is being conducted with utmost seriousness and sensitivity, especially considering the gravity of the crime. Authorities have assured that all those involved will be brought to justice and appealed to the public for cooperation while avoiding the circulation of unverified information.
The case has sparked renewed concerns over public safety and crimes against minors, prompting calls for stricter monitoring of habitual offenders and faster judicial processes.
