Vijayadashami is being celebrated with immense devotion across Odisha on Wednesday, marking the culmination of the five-day Durga Puja festivities.
As devotees bid farewell to Goddess Durga, twin cities Bhubaneswar and Kataka are making grand preparations for the traditional Ravan Dahan ceremonies, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
In the capital city of Bhubaneswar, authorities have granted permission for Ravan Dahan at nine designated locations. With massive crowds expected to gather, the police, fire services, and local puja committees have put stringent crowd management and fire safety measures in place to ensure a peaceful celebration.
Meanwhile, historic Kataka is hosting its 36th Ravan Podi Festival at the Tala Bali Yatra Ground, organised by the Barabati Sarvadharma Sanskrutika Parishad. Key highlights of the Kataka celebrations include:
-
Towering Effigy: A magnificent 80-foot-tall Ravana effigy scheduled to be set ablaze at midnight.
-
Special Offerings: As part of traditional Dashami rituals, Dahi Pakhala will be offered to Goddess Durga to soothe her fierce form following the slaying of Mahishasura.
-
Grand Arrangements: Seating arrangements for approximately 10,000 spectators, complemented by vibrant cultural programs featuring artists from across the state and a dazzling fireworks display.
-
Chief Guest: State BJP President Manmohan Samal is set to grace the event as the chief guest.
Authorities across both cities remain on high alert to ensure smooth traffic regulation, safety, and an unforgettable festive experience for all attendees.
