In a shocking development, Umakanta Patel, the Deputy General Manager (Operations) at Bhubaneswar Airport, has been arrested by the Airport police station on allegations of a prolonged love-sex scam.
The 4-year relationship with a young woman employed as an air hostess with GoAir Airlines allegedly involved deception, exploitation, physical intimacy, and coercion into an abortion.
According to the complaint filed by the victim, Patel lured her into the relationship under false promises of marriage while they were both stationed at Delhi Airport. He misrepresented himself as unmarried to establish sexual relations, exploiting her trust over several months. The woman alleges that once she became pregnant, Patel resorted to threats and intimidation, forcing her to undergo an abortion.
Patel was transferred to Bhubaneswar Airport approximately four months ago, but the illicit relationship continued unabated even after the move. The air hostess, who maintained contact with him post-transfer, claims he persisted with the exploitative behavior in Odisha’s capital, further deepening the emotional and physical toll on her.
Following the formal complaint, police swiftly acted, apprehending Patel on Saturday. He was produced before the court on the same day. Authorities have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including provisions related to cheating, sexual exploitation, and coercion. Investigations are ongoing, with police probing the full extent of the deception and any additional victims.
