The crocodile population in Bhitarkanika National Park has increased, with officials reporting a rise of 32 compared to last year.
The total number of crocodiles has now reached 1,858.
Rajnagar Forest Division Officer confirmed the figures, highlighting the success of conservation efforts in the region. Bhitarkanika, known as India’s second-largest mangrove ecosystem, continues to serve as a safe habitat for estuarine crocodiles.
The annual census revealed steady growth in the population, reflecting improved protection measures and awareness campaigns. Forest officials noted that Bhitarkanika remains one of the most important crocodile conservation sites in the country.
