Berrettini, who had been struggling at the start of the 2025 season, found his rhythm and secured a 7-6(4), 6-2 victory. This win also signifies his first triumph over a Top 10 opponent since January 2023. Known for his powerful serve, Berrettini won an impressive 85% of points on his first serve.

Djokovic, competing in his first singles match since retiring from the Australian Open semi-final due to a hamstring injury, fought valiantly but couldn’t withstand Berrettini’s relentless play. The Italian showcased his skills with 19 forehand winners, breaking down Djokovic’s defences in a one-sided tie-break.
Berrettini, who was voted ATP’s Comeback Player of the Year in 2024, moves on to face Tallon Griekspoor in the second round.
