Odisha Vigilance officials have arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Babita Suna of Mahila Police Station, Berhampur, while she was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant.
The bribe was reportedly demanded to help the complainant and his mother in a case that Suna was investigating.
According to reports, Suna had threatened to arrest the complainant unless she was paid the demanded bribe. Finding no way out, the complainant alerted Odisha Vigilance, leading to a sting operation that resulted in her arrest.
The Vigilance sleuths successfully recovered the entire bribe amount from her possession, confirming the allegations. Following the operation, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to Suna, investigating potential Disproportionate Assets (DA).
A case has been registered under Berhampur Vigilance PS Case No. 7/2025, in accordance with Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Further investigations are underway to uncover more details regarding her alleged corrupt practices.
Odisha Vigilance officials have reiterated their commitment to rooting out corruption from the police force and ensuring justice is upheld.
