Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Likud party has alleged widespread voting irregularities in Tuesday’s national election, claiming that Arab political parties “stole” votes through systemic fraud at polling stations across the country.
In an official statement published on X on Wednesday, Netanyahu’s office announced that Likud plans to submit hundreds of testimonies and supporting materials to law enforcement and electoral authorities, demanding immediate criminal investigations.
Likud Demands Probe by Shin Bet and Central Elections Committee
The Likud party called on the Israeli Police, the Central Elections Committee, and the Shin Bet internal security agency to launch formal investigations into the conduct at Arab polling stations.
The party’s allegations include:
- Electoral Misconduct: Claims of bribery, forged documents, and multiple voting by individuals.
- Coercion & Intimidation: Allegations of physical violence and threats against election observers at voting venues.
In its statement, Likud characterized the alleged fraud as a direct threat to Israel’s democratic processes and the integrity of the ballot.
Unverified Claims Amid High Political Tension
The allegations remain unverified claims asserted by Likud and have not been independently confirmed by election monitors or law enforcement bodies.
Opposition leaders and representatives from Arab political coalitions have dismissed the charges, describing them as an attempt to undermine public confidence in the final vote tally. The Central Elections Committee is currently processing official ballot results as pressure mounts on security authorities to address the claims.
