As India prepare for a must-win fourth Test in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the BCCI has confirmed two major injury blows to the squad.
All-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been ruled out of the remainder of the series, while uncapped pacer Arshdeep Singh will miss the Manchester Test due to a training injury.
India, currently trailing 1-2 in the five-match series against England, head into the July 23 Test at Old Trafford grappling with mounting fitness concerns.
In a press release on Monday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stated:
“Nitish Kumar Reddy has sustained a left knee injury and has been ruled out of the remainder of the series. He will return home for further treatment and rehabilitation.”
Arshdeep Singh, who was on the verge of a potential Test debut, injured his left thumb during a practice session at Beckenham, and will not be available for the fourth Test.
“The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress,” the statement added.
In response to the injury crisis, the selectors have drafted in Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj, who has already linked up with the team in the UK.
India’s updated squad for fourth Test: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC & WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj.
