Odisha Vigilance officials today apprehended Gopal Krishna Pradhan, a Senior Revenue Assistant (SRA) at Baripada Municipality, while allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe.
The bribe was reportedly demanded in exchange for processing a complainant’s stall allotment application, which had been pending since January 2025.
Frustrated by the undue delays, the complainant sought intervention from the vigilance authorities, leading to a sting operation that resulted in Sri Pradhan being caught red-handed. The entire bribery amount was recovered and seized, while authorities initiated simultaneous raids at two locations linked to the accused to probe possible disproportionate assets (DA).
Following the operation, Balasore Vigilance PS Case No. 5/2025 was registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. Investigations are ongoing as officials continue scrutinising the case.
This incident underscores Odisha Vigilance’s firm stance against corruption, reinforcing the necessity of stringent actions to uphold public trust in governance.
