Bangladesh Captain Litton Das Flags Player Uncertainty Amid T20 World Cup 2026 Standoff

With the T20 World Cup 2026 fast approaching, Bangladesh captain Litton Das has raised concerns over the lack of clarity and communication between the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and its players regarding participation, venues, and group fixtures.

Speaking to the media after Rangpur Riders’ elimination from the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) following a three-wicket loss to Sylhet Titans, Das halted a reporter mid-question, citing safety concerns in commenting on the ongoing standoff: “It’s not safe for me to answer.”

Player Concerns and Board Communication

Das highlighted that players have not been consulted regarding Bangladesh’s potential participation in India for the T20 World Cup. He noted that neither the BCB nor government authorities had communicated details about group opponents or venues.

“You don’t know, I don’t know, we’re on the same page,” said Das. “We’re not even sure yet whether we’ll go to the World Cup at all. Until now, no player knows which country we will be playing in or whom we will be playing against. Like me, the whole of Bangladesh is now in uncertainty.”

The captain further stated that no consent was taken from players before decisions were made on whether Bangladesh would participate in the tournament, reportedly due to security concerns expressed by the government and sports authorities.

Background of the Dispute

Earlier this month, tensions between India and Bangladesh affected cricketing schedules. The BCCI had requested Kolkata Knight Riders to remove star pacer Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL squad. In response, the BCB requested the ICC to shift Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup group-stage matches, originally scheduled in Mumbai and Kolkata, but the ICC maintained that the schedule would remain unchanged.

Das emphasized that while players continue to focus on domestic competitions like the BPL, the uncertainty surrounding international commitments remains a major concern.

“Many things in life are not ideal, but you have to accept them according to the situation,” Das concluded.
