In a shocking development from Balipatna, police have arrested three individuals in connection with the death of a local youth.
The accused include the victim’s father, stepmother, and stepbrother. The arrests were made following a detailed scientific investigation that unearthed crucial evidence pointing to foul play.
Zone 4 ACP Abhimanyu Nayak, in a press briefing, confirmed the arrests and stated that the forensic team played a pivotal role in establishing the facts. “We proceeded with the arrests only after receiving conclusive proof from the scientific team,” he said.
Jyoti’s death, initially seen as a self-immolation, has taken a grim turn after a video surfaced in which he accused his father, stepmother, and stepbrother of setting him ablaze over a property dispute.
Jyoti, severely burned, was rushed to AIIMS Bhubaneswar on Friday and died early Saturday. In the video, he stated, “My father, mother and brother poured petrol and set me on fire… There is no property in my name.”
Police have detained Surendra Mathia, his wife, and son Prashant for questioning. The video’s authenticity and the circumstances of its recording are under investigation. Neighbours reported hearing Jyoti’s screams before finding him charred. The case has triggered public outrage and demands for transparency in domestic violence and property-related disputes.
