The Balanga burn victim, who sustained 70–75% burns, is set to be airlifted to Delhi AIIMS for advanced treatment within a few hours, her brother confirmed on Sunday.
Currently undergoing initial treatment at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, the victim’s condition necessitated urgent referral to a higher medical centre. A specialized medical team from AIIMS is coordinating the air evacuation, and one family member will accompany the patient during the transfer.
“All arrangements have been finalized. The Delhi AIIMS authorities are in touch and ready to receive her. She will be airlifted within hours,” said the victim’s brother while speaking to the press.
Doctors from AIIMS Bhubaneswar have also held discussions with the family to brief them on the risks, protocols, and immediate next steps. The airlift comes after the patient’s condition showed little improvement and the need for specialized burn care grew critical.
The doctors said that she sustained 70% burn injuries and the next 48 hours are very critical. However, in a recent update, the medical team treating her took a decision to airlift her for better treatment.
The infamous Balanga incident happened in the broad daylight on July 19. Finding a desolated place, the assailants poured petrol on the minor girl while she was going to her friend’s house and tried to kill her.
