The sacred city of Puri overflowed with devotion and emotion as the globally celebrated Bahuda Yatra, the return journey of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra, unfolded with divine grandeur.
After days of spiritual repose at the Gundicha Temple, the deities embarked on their majestic return to the Srimandir, marking the conclusion of the annual Rath Yatra festivities.
Leading the procession, Lord Balabhadra’s chariot rolled first, followed by Devi Subhadra in the centre, and Lord Jagannath trailing behind, drawing waves of chants and cheers from the sea of devotees lining the Grand Road (Bada Danda).
Security was unprecedented. Over 200 platoons of police personnel, aided by AI-powered surveillance systems and drones, ensured seamless crowd management. Meanwhile, water, land, and aerial routes were under watchful eyes, reaffirming the state’s commitment to safety during massive religious gatherings.
The return chariot pulling began nearly an hour ahead of schedule, driven by divine enthusiasm among the devotees. The city resonated with conch shells, drums, and spiritual fervour as the Lords approached the Lion’s Gate (Singha Dwara) of the Srimandir.
Earlier, lakhs of pilgrims witnessed the final divine play (Leela) at the Gundicha Temple. The Rath Yatra rituals culminated with precision—Pahandi Bije began at noon, and the chariots were pulled in the afternoon around 4 PM.
The Bahuda Yatra, observed annually on the tenth day of the bright fortnight in Ashadha, symbolizes the deities’ reunion with their original abode—carrying profound theological and emotional significance for Jagannath devotees worldwide.
